Visit to the Nigerian Army Education Council (NAEC)

Commandant of the Nigerian Army Education Council (NAEC) Major General Sunday A. Adebayo has re-affirmed his support for Alumni Associations of Academic Institutions under his command in their efforts towards Nation Building and development.

He was speaking during a courtesy call of executives from the Command Jos Association (COJOSA) at the NAEC Headquarters in Lagos Thursday June 18th. He commended the association describing their visit as first of its kind to the Command saying it was one coming in good time.

While addressing the delegation, Maj. Gen. Adebayo recalled with nostalgia his days as a student at the Nigerian Military School NMS Zaria and his visit to the school recently which led to his single handedly building one of the class room blocks in the school which has been named Unity Block. He spoke on the need for Military Schools to regain what he described as their lost glory describing the role of Alumni Associations as one that will go a long way influencing change in the system.

The leader of the delegation Mr. Vicktor Okhai and President of Command Jos Alumni Association was accompanied by Lagos state Chapter President Mr. Saleh Barka, Mr. Ese Fregene, Member COJOSA BOT, the Public Relations Officer and Treasurer of the Association Vivian Akin-Ogundele and Kudirat Ukpede respectively were also on the delegation.

Responding to the Commandants comments, Mr. Okhai described the visit as one meant to acquaint the Council with activities of the Association, highlighting  a list of some who are making the School proud through their profession or career path. In his words ‘what started back then, has yielded results. Command Secondary School Jos has produced National Leaders and Captains of Industries over the years.

He also used the opportunity to present a set of requests to the Commandant, one of which was a meeting venue for the Lagos Chapter and the other, approval to build a COJOSA Secretariat within The School premises in Jos.

The Commandant in his response approved a meeting venue at the Command Children School within the Council Headquarters, while a location for the Secretariat according to him will be communicated to the team subsequently.

Mr. Vicktor also acquainted the Commandant with plans for the Association’s forthcoming National Convention set to hold in Portharcourt, and highlights of the event. Commandant Adebayo also encouraged the Association to carry the Council along in its plans assuring them  of his full support.

Member of the board of Trustees of the Association and first Head Boy of the School also commend the Commandant in his efforts at renovating the Council. He also congratulated him on his recent promotion from Brigadier General to Major General. Mr. Fregene also used the opportunity to assure the Commandant of the proper use of the School Premises.

Souvenirs marking the visit of the delegation were also provided for the delegation from the office of the Commandant. According to him, it comes as a gesture of appreciation for the visit.

Meanwhile, a member of the delegation, Mr. Saleh Barka, president of the Lagos Chapter while thanking the Commandant for the warm reception given to the Team, commended the Council for its Education Standards and Policies which has gone a long way reflecting the discipline and tutelage for which Command Secondary Jos is known.

‘If our objective is to impact positively on the next generation of Leaders in the Country, then we cannot go to sleep now. Much is expected of this present generation of Leaders’.
